Crossing the Lukeville Border back into the United States

HEADING BACK TO THE UNITED STATES

The later the day gets, the more backed up the border gets. The back-up wait time at the border back into the United States can become hours long in the afternoon. For the shortest border wait, we recommend heading to the border immediately after check-out from the resort (possibly even check-out a little early).

CROSSING THE BORDER BACK INTO THE UNITED STATES

About 100 yards from the border, there will be a couple of Mexican Army soldiers. They will randomly select vehicles for luggage inspections. If you are selected, they will have you pull over to the inspection lane. Just be cooperative. It usually only takes a few minutes and you are on your way.

Once you cross the border and are approaching the United States Customs area, you will normally see a few lanes open. Don’t go into the “fast pass” lanes unless you are directed to do so by a US Customs agent. Just use the “all vehicles” lanes. Follow the instructions on the signs and have passports and/or birth certificates ready for everyone within the vehicle. As you approach the customs agent, make sure all of your driver side windows are down so they can see into the vehicle. They will normally ask where you are coming from and where you are going to. Just tell them you are going home to (your city, state) from your vacation in Rocky Point. Occasionally, they will ask you to pull into one of the inspection lanes ahead so they can do a luggage check and have a K-9 sniff your vehicle. Just be cooperative. It usually only takes a few minutes and you are on your way.
